What Gus Collects

Gus stores all your data locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This includes:

This personal activity data stays on your device unless you use the AI chat feature.

AI Chat

When you use the per-activity AI assistant, your messages and activity context are sent to a Supabase Edge Function, which forwards them to OpenAI for processing. These messages are used solely to generate a response and are not stored on our servers.

OpenAI may process your messages according to their own privacy policy. No conversation history is stored server-side by Gus.

Anonymous Authentication

Gus creates an anonymous device-level session via Supabase Auth for rate limiting and app functionality. This session:

Product Analytics

Gus uses PostHog to understand onboarding flow, paywall events, and broad product interaction patterns. Analytics events are tied to a randomly generated install ID, not your name, email, Apple ID, or advertising identifier.

PostHog is configured for manual product analytics only — no session replay and no automatic screen recording. PostHog does not receive your advertising identifier. Advertising attribution is handled separately, and only with your permission — see Advertising and Attribution below.

Subscriptions and Purchases

Gus uses Apple StoreKit and Superwall to present paywalls, manage subscription status, and support the free trial. Purchase processing is handled by Apple. Gus uses subscription status only to unlock or gate app access.

Advertising and Attribution

Gus uses attribution and measurement services — the TikTok Business SDK and AppsFlyer — to understand how well our advertising performs: for example, whether someone who saw a Gus ad went on to install the app, start a free trial, or subscribe.

For this, Gus shares certain events — such as app installs, trial starts, and purchases — with these services. Only if you grant permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt does Gus also share your device's advertising identifier (IDFA). If you decline, your advertising identifier is not shared. You can change this at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.

These are the only third-party advertising or attribution services Gus uses.

Notifications

Gus schedules local notifications on your device — daily nudges, per-activity reminders, and your morning screen-time receipt. These are generated on-device.

To keep the Door's Lock Screen Live Activity current in the background — so your day's screen-time status stays accurate even when the app is closed — Gus also uses Apple's Push Notification service (APNs), delivered through a Supabase Edge Function. This uses an anonymous, per-install push token and only the minimal state needed to render that Live Activity. It is not linked to any account and carries no personally identifiable information.

Third-Party Services

Gus shares the limited advertising and attribution data described above with TikTok and AppsFlyer. Other than that, Gus does not sell or share your personal data with third parties for advertising.

Data Deletion

Your activities, tasks, notes, and time logs are stored locally. Deleting the Gus app from your device permanently deletes that local data. Anonymous backend and analytics identifiers are not tied to an account you can log into.
